Monthly Contest Submission Rules

Photo Competition Rules

You must be member of SDUPS and you may submit 1 image each month

Your Class is determined by accumulated points over the time of your membership

Novice: 25 points or less

Amateur: 26 to 70 points

Advanced: 71 points or more

New members may pick their initial Class level

Advancement between classes occurs at the end of each year

Points are awarded for placement in the competition

1st Place - 5 points

2nd Place - 3 points

3rd Place - 1 point

(In case of a tie, all tying photographers will be awarded the corresponding point value of their placement)

Photo modifications that are allowed:   Cropping, Sharpening, Color Adjustments (Levels, Hues, Color Balance, Dodge, Burn), Contrast Adjustments, Backscatter Removal.

Photo modifications that are not allowed:  Alterations of Image Content,  Removal or Addition of Subjects or Material

Submit .jpg files with 1024×768 resolution - Files should be emailed in response to monthly request for submissions email

Photographer of the Year award shall be given to the member in each division who earns the most points during the year. The award shall be given to the member in that division who earns the most points during that calendar year at the Holiday Awards Party in December.

Voting for the winning images is by secret ballot at each meeting. The Secretary/Historian is solely responsible for tallying and keeping an accurate record of all members current point status, and is available for any questions arising on this topic.

Video Competition Rules

Media Types: Window’s Media (.wmv), Quicktime (.mov) and h.264 file formats are acceptable.

Submission:  All video’s must be copied to the club computer before 6:30PM the night of the meeting.

All video’s must be under 30 seconds. There can be multiple clips in the video.   Any video over the 30 second RULE will be disqualified.

The video can be any subject.

Point scale and awards are the same as the Photo Competition

How to Enter the Monthly Competition

Photo Entries - It should be emailed to Mike Poirier ( on the Sunday prior to the meeting.

                      Submit it as a jpg file with 1024 X 768 dimensions

                      Example of how to name your file:   adv_mikepoirier.jpg

                            nov = novice     ama = amateur   adv = advanced

Video Entries -  Give them to the meeting coordinator no later than 6:30PM the night of the meeting via a USB drive.
